The Cape Cod Chamber’s office of Small Business Services is committed to help its members improve their businesses by providing support and useful information on a regular basis.  Here are a few points of interest for the last week of October.

The Cape Cod Chamber presents its fall series of small business workshops. The theme of the series is “Survival Techniques for Small Businesses” during these uncertain times.  (See details below.)

The State Office of Minority and Woman Business Assistance (SOMWBA) are holding a series of workshops throughout the State to pre-certify eligible business owners in order to obtain state contacts and public works projects under the Minority or Woman owner business designation.   For more information please contact a SOMWBA representative at 617-973-8692. 

The State Department of Economic Affairs in partnership with the University of Massachusetts is conducting a planning seminar to update the State’s Economic Development Strategy.  The program will be held on October 29, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Cape Cod Community College .  For more information please contact the U. The Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) is holding a series of business roundtables throughout the State during November and December.  Topics range from human resources management, to productivity maintenance, to supervisory issues.  For more information please call 617-262-1180 or online at www.aimnet.org.

SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Cape and Islands Community Development, Inc. (CDI), announces a series of workshops on survival techniques for small business owners. 

The workshop series is a proactive tool intended to assist business owners develop a strategic plan for successfully working through the current economic turbulence.  Recognizing that today’s planning can often eliminate tomorrow’s problems, the workshops will focus on reviewing your company’s current financial position as compared to prior years and developing a 12-month projection.  Professionals will offer advice on increasing revenues, decreasing expenses and avoiding recessionary pitfalls. 

Each workshop will begin with a panel of experts offering advice on the workshop topic followed by a question answer period.  Upon request, business owners can meet one-on-one with each expert for a confidential discussion. MASSACHUSETTS LOVES NEW YORK

The Massachusetts tourism industry is taking Mayor Rudolph Guiliani up on his appeal to come to New York City and assist in the City’s economic recovery.

The "MA Loves NY" initiative was developed in partnership with the 13 regional tourism councils in
Massachusetts .    Olympia Brescia, president of Ambassador Travel Service and Global Marketing Alliance is working in conjunction with Celyta Jackson, vice president of NYC & Co., New York City ’s convention & visitors bureau, to organize a whirlwind New York “City Break” on October 28 and 29, 2001.  Members of Massachusetts ’ tourism industry, their families and friends, will pay $295 per person, double occupancy for the inclusive package which features

  • round-trip transportation between Boston and New York via Amtrak,
  • one night’s stay at the landmark Roosevelt Hotel located at Madison and 45th,
  • a New York City sightseeing tour with Gray Line of New York ,
  • tickets to Broadway’s newest comedy hit, “The Full Monty”,
  • dinner at one of New York ’s most dazzling dining experiences, Tavern on the Green restaurant overlooking Central Park ,
  • followed by cool jazz at Harlem ’s legendary Cotton Club,
  • and lots of time for participants to shop ‘till they drop with discount shopping coupons courtesy of Bloomingdales.

All 13 regional tourism council directors from across Massachusetts are inviting their members to join them in contributing to the New York economy while helping to rebuild consumer confidence in travel.

CAPE COD CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOURTH ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC A SUCCESS! 

The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce hosted its fourth annual golf classic at the Captain’s Course (Port) in Brewster on October 18, 2001 .   The winning team was All Seasons Motor Inn with a score of 62, second place went to the Cape Point Hotel team with a score of 64 and the third place team was   Nash & Company with a score of 65.  The day was enjoyed by all who attended!
