  • US Small Business Administration accepting nominations
    .
The U. S. Small Business Administration is accepting nominations for the 2003 Massachusetts Small Business Person of the Year. In addition, we are seeking nominations on behalf of other outstanding small business owners, entrepreneurs and advocates. The criteria for each category (Smalll Business Person of the Year, Women in Business Advocate, Minority Small Business Advocate, Entreprenuerial Success Award, Small Business Exporter, Financial Services Advocate, Home-based Business Advocate, Small Business Journalist, Small Business Research Advocate, Veteran Small Business Advocate, Young Entrepreneur) is online.

There are two ways to submit nominations this year. (1) You can request the nomination form from Joan Trudell & return it by November 15, 2002. We will then notify these individuals that they have been nominated and ask them to prepare and send us the packet of required information. (2) As in the past, you can take responsibility for preparing a packet of material for your nominee. Go to www.sba.gov/library/pubs.html to the "Small Business Award Nomination" section at the bottom of the page to download guidelines. If you do it this way, the packet of material is due at the SBA office in Boston by December 6, 2002.

The Massachusetts Small Business Person of the Year winner will join others from 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as well as national winners of the advocate and special award categories, in Washington, D.C. in June. In Massachusetts we will celebrate the achievements of our state award winners with a special event in late spring. The SBA will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2003 so expect some extraordinary events. Please contact Joan Trudell at 617-565-5572 or by emaila t [email protected]

Looking at all markets: Could the government be a customer?

The 'Looking at all markets...' workshop will be held on October 29 from 8 - 9:30 am at the Belfry Inne & Bistro, Jarves St., Sandwich. The presenter is Dan Lilly, Procurement Technical Assistance Specialist of Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network.

Did you know that area businesses in Southeastern Massachusetts have major contracts with the federal government? Did you know you could get assistance with entering this market? On October 1, the federal agencies will receive their new budgets, and will begin the bidding and contracting process. The Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) works to assist registered companies with securing a portion of these opportunities. The PTAC provides a service that matches clients with procurement opportunities targeted to the products and/or services that they produce or provide. This service includes information about not only Federal contracts, but also about state and municipal bidding opportunities. Take advantage of assistance in bidding, managing and performing on government contracts. Come hear from Dan Lilly and learn how to sell to this important customer.

Who should come: construction and related services, manufacturing, and professional service businesses.
