Local students about the range of
career possibilities in travel and tourism
A pilot project sponsored by the Cape Cod Chamber of
Commerce at the Hyannis Sheraton Resort brought professionals in the
travel and tourism business in front of 60 high school students from
Dennis Yarmouth,
Barnstable
, and
Cape
Tech.
Through a
morning session designed to inform students about the range of
possibilities in travel and tourism, area youth got information about
careers as well as statistics regarding the importance of tourism to our
region. Seventy-eight percent
of the attendees indicated that this experience resulted in a positive
change about the industry, with 14% of those indicating no change stating
they already had a positive view. All
attending would recommend this experience, which included lunch and a tour
of the Sheraton Hyannis Resort, to other students.
Presenters included representatives from the Chatham Bars Inn, Ebb
Tide Restaurant, Twin Oaks Inn, the ECAC, and the Cape Cod Chamber.

London
,
November 2001 -- Arthur Ratsy
- Delegates
from different parts of the world came together to show their support
of the hospitality industrys role in the promotion of peace
throughout the world.
-
US
pavilion was quieter
than unusual but our presence showed our commitment to the
international market
- Overall
atmosphere was very relaxed. No
sign of fear among the delegates.
- Many
previous tour operators and press stopped by and thanked us for being
there. Many had
US
flag pins as a sign
of solidarity.
- The
feeling among tour operators was that the
UK
market will return
in great numbers mid year 2002.
- Tour
operators were holding back publishing their 2002 catalogs in hopes of
packaging for less
- Travel
in
Europe
is way up
-
Massachusetts
held a very
successful luncheon for 25 top tour operators and press
- Both
my flights on Aer Lingus and American were filled to capacity. Hope it
continues.
Finally I am very proud that I was able to
represent
Cape Cod
and hopefully this will mean the return of our
international visitors soon. Again,
they really appreciated us being there to show our support.
