Dear
Lindsey,
Lots of tidbits to pass along this week!
International Trade Assistance Center participates
in "Exporting for the 21st Century" |
 |
On
Tuesday, September 17th, New Directions and the Standard-Times
will be sponsoring a program entitled "Exporting for the 21st
Century". Speakers from the International Trade Assistance
Center, the Mass. Export Center and Mass Development will
discuss how companies can take advantage of export markets.
This program is a good introduction to not only the basics
of formalizing an export strategy but also the export
resources available to companies in Massachusetts.
International Trade Assistance Center (ITAC) also holds
counseling sessions for individual businesses monthly right
here at the Cape Cod Chamber's administrative offices
ITAC is a regional organization whose mission is to expand
the Southeastern Massachusetts' economy by improving the
international competitiveness of local companies. This is
accomplished through partnerships with federal and state
agencies, and with the support of local chambers of commerce.
"Our goal is to help local businesses realize the potential of
the international marketplace, and illustrate that there
exists a market for their products overseas" says Tobias
Stapleton, Executive Director of ITAC Inc.
Realizing the importance of diversification in today's
global market place, the Cape Cod Chamber has worked with ITAC
to bring their resource here to Cape Cod for the benefit of
our members and the business community in general. Office
hours to meeting with an ITAC representative are available
from 9 to 5 on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.

International Notes from Arthur
Ratsy |
 |
A couple
from Ireland recently stopped by our office on Main Street and
asked the receptionist if they could see Arthur Ratsy to shake
his hand. When he appeared they shook his hand and thanked him
for two wonderful weeks on Cape Cod. It turns out that last
year, at a consumer show in Dublin, Arthur spent over an hour
with them convincing them to come to Cape Cod rather than
South Carolina for their holiday. They promised to tell their
friends in Ireland what a wonderful time they had here and
said they would be back.
Last week Arthur hosted Mr. Richard Gilbert, a travel
writer from the UK, who is doing a story on Boston, Newport
and Cape Cod. Mr. Gilbert met Arthur at a function in London
two years ago and upon their meeting here on the Cape, Mr.
Gilbert's first words were "you bugged me so much to see Cape
Cod I had to come." During their tour of Cape Cod Mr. Gilbert
noticed the bumper sticker on Arthur's car and immediately
wrote down our slogan "A short trip to far away". His comment:
"Brilliant".
We received the following info from Shelley Conway at TIA
(Travel Industry Association of America): Cheryl M. Hargrove
of The HTC Group, is working on the "Essentially Shopping
Guide to the USA for 2003". The guide, distributed with
Essentially America magazine and sold on news stands
throughout the UK, features unique shopping opportunities in
America. Each listing (either mall, outlet, retail district,
local arts & crafts, or antiques/collectibles) is
organized by state. As an added feature, Cheryl would like to
mention the best souvenir(s) to buy for each state, and needs
your help.
To ensure that input from your state is included in the
guide, send her the name of an item, description and even
where to buy it by August 30. For more information, contact
Cheryl Hargrove by phone at 912.638.6078; by fax at
912.638.3468; or by email at [email protected].
