    Tobey Stapleton of Massachusetts International Trade Assistance Center (ITAC) will be at the Cape Cod Chamber's Administrative Offices on October 23 to conduct office hours for members seeking counseling assistance on selling goods to international markets.

    FREE BUSINESS ADVICE The Massachusetts Small Business Development Center at The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (MSBDC) and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the availability of small business advisory services at the Chamber's Hyannis offices.

    For more than twenty years, the MSBDC has been a valuable resource to the communities it serves. Now, through a partnership with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the SBDC is better able to meet the needs of small businesses in the Cape Cod area.The MSBDC offers free business assistance through individual counseling, training and economic development activities. Its experienced counselors can assist clients with a wide range of business needs, including start-up planning, marketing, financial analysis, expansion planning, debt financing, and much more.

    The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the SBDC & ITAC encourage you to call to see how together they can serve the needs of your small business.     Make Waves for the Cape Cod Chamber

    You are invited to "MAKE WAVES" in our community by participating in the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce One Day Membership Blitz Day. Mark your calendar for Wednesday November 6, 2002, in the front room of our Route 6 & Route 132 information center, and come and join the Membership Committee for our 2003 Membership Drive.

    There will be two shifts: 8:00 a.m. until noon & 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.. Each shift will have a 30 minute lesson on how to sell a membership to what type of business. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided.

    WE NEED YOUR HELP! We are asking each of you to become a team captain. Simply contact four of your peers and you've got your team of five. Your team will participate in a 3½-hour membership Phone Blitz. There will be all kinds of prizes for your team & team members to win. Past membership blitzes have been a lot of fun and this one will too!

    Program Highlights: 1. New ad rate in the 2003 Official Visitors' Guide to Cape Cod 2. New URL: www.capecodbedandbreakfast.us 3. New web site presence for B&B advertisers in the Official Guide only. 4. Payment plan for B&B's offered.

    How it Works: 1. Your ad in the 2003 Official Guide to Cape Cod B&B section (new this year) will also expose visitors to a new URL www.capecodbedandbreakfast.us. Only those advertisers in the new B&B section will appear on the new portion of the Chamber website that this new URL will point to. Your membership page (no extra charge) with a photo (no extra charge) will appear on this section of the website and link (at no extra charge) to your own website. 2. If you were in the 2002 B&B Guidebook, you can repeat your same block ad (photo & text.) If not, we can take the photo or scan one in easily. 3.     Owning a small business calls for vision, determination, and all the sound expertise you can get. The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce and Cape & Islands Community Development Inc. is pleased to present this series geared to small business owners and managers. All workshops are 8 - 9:30 am unless otherwise noted.     October 9: Keeping your business in your customer's mind: Communicating in the electronic age. Who should come: Business owners or managers with the ability to use the internet. Cape Cod Community College Media Center, Library, lower level. Eric Groves, Constant Contact, presenter. Local businesses are finding that connecting with customers and potential customers helps the bottom line. Constant Contact, which powers the e-newsletter for the Cape Cod Chamber, has templates and email management software that you can use to keep in touch electronically. More customers are using electronic communications to get information, make decisions, and purchase products and services. Some of our members are already using this approach and will share their success. The workshop will help you figure out what will work for your company.

    October 16: Make Time-it's real money Using the BIZPLAN has saved mom and pop businesses and the self employed $2450 annually. Who should come: Family businesses, mom and pop operations, the self employed. Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank, Mashpee, Rte 151 (across from the Mashpee Commons) Presenters: Mary Beth Prescott, CLTC, Bap-Rap Insurance Agency, Inc. Jim Simpson, Pension Consultant, TransAmerica Retirement Services, and Kurt Czarnowski, Regional Public Affairs Officer, New England, Social Security Administration Look for money right in your back yard. You pay into social security but probably put the minimum into your own retirement account. We know you take deductions for all your premiums and health care-are you maximizing this? Local mom and pop businesses, and in particular self employed workers have saved and average of $2,450 through BIZPLAN. See if you qualify for the Section 105 program. Advantages include: 100% deductible family medical insurance premiums; 100% deductible non insured medical expenses; 100% deductible qualified long term care insurance premiums; deductible term life premiums on spouse/employees up to $50,000; dental and vision care expenses. This workshop will help business owners understand how to customize their retirement plans, profit-sharing plans, industry trends and new regulatory development.
