Green Home 2001:

Focus on Energy

In this year of rising fuel costs, we’ve decided to focus on energy in the home – both conservation and renewable energy systems.  Each workshop will feature expert speakers, a networking/discussion time and take home information designed to help you improve your quality of life, save money and help protect the Cape’s natural resources.

March 7:  Energy Conservation:  Energy crisis got you down?  Tired of high fuel bills?  Learn how to make your home more comfortable while reducing your ongoing expenses.  This session will cover weatherproofing your home as well as tips and tricks on reducing your electric bills and a brief introduction to renewable energy.

Presenters:  Bruce Torrey, Building Diagnostics;  Robert Kowalzic, MassSave

March 14:  Electricity From the Sun and Wind:  Considering solar photovoltaics?  Curious about the potential for wind energy systems on Cape Cod?  Learn about the newest technologies with two experts.

Presenters:  Moneer Azzam, ASE America;  Mike Jacobs, Second Wind

March 21:  Heat From the Sun:  Sunspaces and Solar Hot Water:  What principles should you use when designing your sunspace to be cozy – not too cold and not to warm?  Will it reduce, or increase energy costs for your home?  What about solar thermal panels?  Many families on Cape Cod have been quietly using solar thermal hot water for years and swear by them.  Are these panels for you?

Presenters:  Courtney Miller, Courtney Miller Architects;  Conrad Geyser, Cotuit Solar

March 28:  From Theory Into Practice: Cape Cod Case Studies:  Been dreaming about changing over to renewable energy but not quite sure how to put all the pieces together?  This panel discussion will introduce you to individuals who are in various stages of installing renewable energy systems as part of sustainable building practices in their homes.  Listen to their success stories and learn how to address some of the barriers.

Presenters:  Alison Flynn, Joe Hackler, Tom Hiksdal, Amy Larkin, Seth Wilkinson, Malcolm Wells

Time:  All workshops will be held Wednesday evenings from 7 – 9 p.m. followed by a networking/discussion time with refreshments for those people who are interested.
